Tuition at Texas Christian University Increases, Harvard Is Now More Affordable

Texas Christian University (TCU) has announced an increase in undergraduate tuition starting from the 2024/25 academic year.
The undergraduate tuition at TCU has increased by 7.9 percent, which is also the largest rise at the university in over ten years. The increase will apply to both current and new students, Erudera.com reports.
In other words, the annual tuition at TCU has risen to over $61,000, an annual increase of nearly $4,520 for full-time undergraduates. This amount excludes additional expenses such as fees, books, and student housing.
“This decision comes after careful consideration of economic factors and it is necessary to maintain and advance TCU’s standard of excellence in academics, student experience and services,” the university said on its website.
Differently, attending Harvard, an Ivy League institution, now costs less. Studying at Harvard costs about $54,269, excluding charges for student housing and additional services and fees.
The decision on tuition rate increase for the 2024/25 academic year came following TCU’s celebration of a $1 billion fundraising campaign in October, as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Local media reports say the university has invested $200 million in constructing over 20 new buildings since 2012. It is still uncertain whether the funds from the $1 billion raised will be used to address the influx of new students.
TCU said the increase applies only to tuition, with plans to announce changes to food and housing rates at a later time. Certain graduate rates will also increase by 7.9 percent to correspond with the overall rise.
The university recalled on its website its decision to keep tuition unchanged during the pandemic.
“Most universities experience an annual increase in fixed costs, resulting in a tuition rate increase, including TCU. We did not institute a tuition increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the 2021-2022 Academic Year,” TCU said.
There are also plans to increase need-based financial aid and students who receive it will be automatically considered for extra funding. However, students with fixed scholarships must explore other funding options to cover the extra $4,500 in tuition.
Texas Christian University was founded in 1873, and it has an undergraduate enrollment of 10,915 and 1,870 graduates, the university’s data indicate.
According to a study analyzing Instagram photos conducted by Resume, a company focusing on the creation of resumes and cover letters, TCU is one of the happiest college campuses in the United States.
