As part of a £700 million investment, the University of Warwick, a top UK institution will build new research and education facilities, from teaching rooms to laboratories, the university has announced.

Facilities, where subjects in social sciences and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) programs will be taught, are set to be built in a former car park at the campus. This is the largest single investment in campus in all the university’s 60-year history, Erudera.com reports.

“The unprecedented investment will focus on the Social Sciences and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and will facilitate an expansion in interdisciplinary education and research opportunities and new courses in both areas,” the university said in its announcement.

The new facilities will enable the school to enhance the campus experience and provide more opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduates. Additionally, the investment is expected to further strengthen the university’s partnerships regionally, nationally, and internationally.

While announcing the plans for the first phase of the investment “The Connect Programme”, school officials said that about 1,500 jobs in construction will be created throughout the project, thus strengthening the economy.

Commenting on the program, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick, Stuart Croft, said the university is leading the way in advancing STEM education to motivate the next generation of innovators.

“As we enter the first phase of the STEM Connect programme, The University of Warwick is leading the way in advancing STEM education and research, to inspire the next generation of innovators. 2025 marks 60 years of The University of Warwick and this investment reaffirms our commitment to making a better world together through our research, education and innovation,” Croft said.

The STEM Connect Programme, which includes innovative spaces for new state-of-the-art research and education programs, is expected to begin in the next 12 months.

The University of Warwick is one of the top universities in the United Kingdom, enrolling 14,700 undergraduates, and 8,900 postgraduates. The university is also home to more than 9,500 students from 147 countries.

The Russell Group, the association that represents 24 leading UK universities, one of which is Warwick, reports that the latter has a yearly turnover of over £510 million. Some 92 percent of the university’s research was rated as top research worldwide.

Earlier this year, a report by the Tab Warwick said that Russell Group had confirmed Warwick will no longer be part of the association and will be replaced by Coventry University.
