List of Universities in Germany Helping Ukrainian Students
Universities in Germany have been more than willing to help Ukrainian students in such times of need ever since Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
German universities are not the only higher education institutions offering help to students affected by war. In fact, universities worldwide have lent a helping hand to Ukrainian students, providing psychological support, financial assistance, and all kinds of counseling services.
The most recent pre-war statistics show that a total of 6,572 students from Ukraine were pursuing their university education in Germany. The situation has changed with the war. According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as of November 2022, more than one million Ukrainian refugees were recorded in Germany.
Important: Our team is gathering all information related to universities that are offering help to displaced Ukrainian students, including the type of help they are providing for anyone who might need it in times of hardship.
Reporting and sharing this information is the least we can do. If you want to contribute to this list or would like to get in touch, please contact [email protected].

Tuition Fees at German Universities for Ukrainian Students
Public universities in Germany (except for Baden-Württemberg) do not charge tuition fees, only semester fees (around €250 per semester)
The federal state of Baden-Württemberg, where students from non-EU countries pay tuition fees, is currently not charging tuition fees for Ukrainian students until further notice.
The announcement from the Baden-Wuerttemberg’s Ministry of Science, Research and Art reads:
“Students from Ukraine who have a residence permit in accordance with Section 24 of the Residence Act and are taking up studies in Baden-Württemberg are exempt from paying tuition fees for international students (Section 5 paragraph 1 number 5 of the State Higher Education Fees Act - LHGebG), starting with the 2022 summer semester.”
“Students from Ukraine with a different residence permit (in particular according to Section 16b of the Residence Act), who are currently subject to fees, can request a deferral or waiver of international tuition fees for the winter semester 2022/23 according to Section 7 LHGebG.”
