The University of Manchester is the favorite institution for top recruiters in the United Kingdom to find graduates, according to the Graduate Market 2023 report by High Fliers Research, a company specializing in student and graduate recruitment research.

It is the second time in a row that the northern institution retains the top spot as the favorite of UK leading employers, Erudera.com reports.

“This is fabulous news, and shows that our graduates and our University have an enviable reputation with top employers. Employability is right at the heart of what we do. Well done to our Careers team and to everyone working to support students in getting work ready!” Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, April McMahon, said.

According to the report, other top universities targeted by UK recruiters in 2022/23 were:

  • University of Nottingham
  • University of Birmingham
  • University of Bristol
  • University of Warwick
  • University of Leeds
  • University College London
  • University of Cambridge
  • Durham University
  • University of Southampton

The Graduate Market in 2023 is the annual study conducted by the High Fliers Research on graduate jobs and starting salaries at the UK’s one hundred top employers.

Nearly half of the employers known as the best in the country reported an increase in the number of graduate jobs during this season compared to recruitment last year.

“Employers have increased the number of universities that they have actively marketed their graduate vacancies at during the 2022-2023 recruitment season, to an average of 27 universities,” the report points out.

Data indicate that employers received about 39 applications per vacancy from graduates in the UK, and the number of graduate students hired in 2022 increased by 14.5 percent compared to the previous year. It was the largest annual increase in graduate jobs that was ever recorded.

Most students joined one of the "Big Four" accounting & professional services firms, which recruited more than 2,300 university leavers, marking this way a record as the single employer in the UK hiring the most graduates.

Accounting and professional services companies are expected to lead in the number of newly hired graduates in 2023 as well, with more than 7,500 entry-level vacancies to be opened for graduates.

Additionally, the Graduate Market 2023 report notes that the number of graduate vacancies available this year is expected to jump 6.3 percent. This increase is projected based on the latest recruitment targets for UK top employers.

Last year, UK employers hired 3,500 more graduates than it was expected at the beginning of the academic year 2021/22.
