Requirements

To get into a business school you first need to meet the requirements of the school you plan to attend. Academic Qualifications

In order to be eligible to enter a business school in the UK at an undergraduate level, you should have successfully completed High School and obtained your diploma or leaving certificate. If you are planning to pursue your studies at a postgraduate level, you should have a Bachelor’s degree in one of the business areas.

Submitting a GMAT/GRE score is also one of the requirements. Universities may have different minimum requirements for this section, so make sure you check with the university of your choice about their preferred score.

You will also be required to submit a copy of your CV, and at least two reference letters.

For postgraduate studies, some universities may require you to have a minimum of two years of work experience.

Visa

An important requirement for international students that wish to study in the United Kingdom is obtaining a visa. Visa requirements may vary depending on the country of your origin. EU/EEA and Swiss students that have started their studies before 31 December 2020, but want to continue their studies after January 1st, 2021 will need to apply for a settlement scheme before 30 June 2021. Some students will need a visa to study in the UK even if they come from an EU/EEA country.

If you are a non-EU/EEA student, the length of your studies determines the type of visa you need in order to study in the UK. If you are going to stay in the UK for a period of 6 to 11 months you need a Short-Term Study Visa. Whereas, if you plan on staying in the country to obtain a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or a Ph.D., you need to apply for a General Student Visa (Tier 4 Student Visa).

Language requirements

Another requirement for all prospective business students whose native language is not English is having a certain level of English proficiency. The requirements for language proficiency may differ from one university to another.

  • If you take the IELTS you must score no less than 6.0 in each section.
  • If you take the Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) you must have at least a grade C.
  • If you take the TOEFL test you must score a minimum of 92 points overall with a minimum of 23 in Speaking, 22 in Writing, 21 in Listening, and 21 in Reading.

Application Process

The United Kingdom has a centralized application system called UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) through which admissions committees receive students’ applications. International students apply through the same portal as well. However, it is important to check the website of the university you plan to apply to. Some universities require you to apply directly to their website. This includes completing an application form, creating an account on the university website, and submitting the supporting documents.

If you are applying through UCAS you should create an account and fill out your application. When completing your application whether it is through UCAS or to the website of the university directly, make sure that you write your name exactly as it appears on your passport or birth certificate.

Degree Duration: How Long Does It Take to Study Business in the United Kingdom?

The duration of a degree usually depends on the level of study you are undertaking. It also depends on the school and subject area you choose to study. If you are pursuing undergraduate studies, a bachelor’s degree in Business may take three to four years of full-time study to complete. Master’s degrees on the other hand are shorter. It usually takes at least one to two years of full-time study to complete. Ph.D.’s on the other hand take longer than master’s degrees to complete. If you choose to pursue a Ph.D. in Business in the UK you can expect to dedicate three to four years of your life to the degree.

Tuition Fees: How Much Does It Cost to Study Business in the United Kingdom?

Tuition fees in the United Kingdom vary depending on the country of your origin. They also depend on the level of study you plan to undertake, and the university in which you choose to pursue your business studies. Tuition fees for students coming from a third country have always been higher. However, due to Brexit, students coming from an EU/EEA country may have to pay the same tuition fees as international students coming from a third country. If you are undertaking your bachelor studies you can expect to pay around $12,961(£9,200) to $35,227(£25,000) per year.

For postgraduate studies, tuition fees can range from $7,042 (£5000) to $42,255 (£30,000) per year.
